Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits have officially agreed to terms on a one-year contract with second-round selection AJ Andrews for the 2015 NPF season, per team general manager Aaron M. Moore.
"I am very excited to have a player of Andrews' caliber join our roster," Moore said. "She will be a big addition to our team and will have opportunities to contribute immediately."
Andrews, whose LSU Tigers enjoyed a run to the NCAA Women's College World Series, finished up a decorated collegiate career in which she started 235 of 240 career games.
While at LSU, Andrews finished with a .321 career batting average and showed steady improvement throughout her four years. The Oldsmar, Florida native smacked five home runs and tallied 95 RBI in her career and also swiped 97 stolen bases. In her senior season at LSU, Andrews led the team in triples, walks and stolen bases and ranked third in batting average, hits and on-base percentage.
"We had been scouting Andrews coming into the draft and were thrilled that she fell to us in the second round," Moore said. "Coming from the SEC and the College World Series, she has already played at the biggest stages of the game and knows how to perform under pressure."
Andrews received individual recognition for her efforts at LSU. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2012, was twice a Second-Team All-SEC member and one-time First-Team All-SEC selection. She is expected to be a major contributor to the Bandits in her rookie season with the team.
Following a long road trip, the Bandits will return to The Ballpark at Rosemont on Sunday, June 21 for a three-game set against the NPF's newest franchise, the Dallas Charge.
Tickets for all Bandits games during the 2015 NPF season are on sale now and can be purchased at www.chicagobandits.com.
