TOWSON, Md. - The Baltimore Blast won a high-scoring affair on Saturday night in front of over 1,400 fans at TU Arena.
The match was neck-and-neck for most of the way until the waning moments in the third quarter. Baltimore took control from there and defeated Utica City, 15-10.
Tony Donatelli had a monster game for Baltimore with two goals and four assists. Victor Parreiras and Jamie Thomas also played well in the win, recording three goals and an assist each.
Nelson Santana got FC on the board first with a slow roller after Blast goalkeeper Mike Zierhoffer was late getting back to the goal. Baltimore responded with a goal from Parreiras while the Blast was on a power play. Donatelli assisted on the goal to tie the game.
Utica City scored after goalkeeper Julian Rodriguez threw the ball down the field to DJ Albert. The ball went through Zierhoffer's legs and gave FC a 2-1 lead.
But Baltimore again had a response. Ricardinho Sobreira passed the ball across the field and found Donatelli for the goal. Less than a minute later, Patrick Thompson gave Baltimore its first lead of the game on a shot rebound.
FC tied it up after Ronaldinho Diniz scored off the assist from Franck Tayou. Baltimore responded with an unassisted goal from Oumar Sylla. At the end of the first quarter, the Blast took a 4-3 lead.
Damon Almazan tied the game for the third time after receiving a pass from Tim Goldman. The goal knotted the game at three goals. Baltimore responded in less than a minute after Donatelli's shot rebounded and found Parreiras for his second goal of the night.
Donatelli picked up another assist after sending the ball into the middle, where it found Sylla for his second goal. Utica City responded, though, cutting Baltimore's lead to 6-5. Adriano Dos Santos scored for Baltimore, increasing the lead to 7-5.
FC netted a goal just before halftime to cut the Blast lead to 7-6, which Baltimore took into halftime.
It didn't take long for Baltimore to get on the board in the third quarter. Parreiras picked up a hat trick with Thomas assisting on the play. Utica City responded minutes later, with Diniz scoring his second goal. Tayou picked up the assist. Utica City scored another goal on a penalty shot. Tayou scored the equalizer.
Baltimore once again took the lead after Jamie Thomas' shot was deflected by the goalkeeper but then ricocheted off Tayou and found its way into the net. Baltimore took a 9-8 lead into the end of the third quarter.
The Blast took a two-goal lead early in the fourth quarter after Dos Santos scored on a free kick. Juan Pereira picked up the assist. Thomas scored his second goal off the assist from Parreiras and gave the Blast a three-goal lead with 9:22 remaining in the game.
Baltimore piled on the goals as Thomas picked up a hat trick on the night. It was part of a six-goal fourth quarter in which Baltimore extended its lead, and won 15-10.
