
Baltimore Blast Fall to Utica City 4-2 on Opening Weekend

Baltimore, MD - The Blast travelled to Utica, New York for another matchup against rivals Utica City FC, but came away with a 4-2 defeat.
Utica City opened the scoring as Christian Segura continued his hot start to the season with a goal in the opening minutes of the game. A Utica City back pass almost resulted in a Blast goal in the final minutes of the first quarter. The Blast were out shot by Utica City 6-2 in the first quarter.
The game opened up with more chances from both teams. Utica City took advantage of the extra chances to score two goals in the second quarter. Liam Callahan took advantage of a Utica City set piece to put the hosts up 2-0 midway through the second quarter. Christian Segura would tally his second goal of the game with an unbelievable chip from beyond midfield late in the second quarter. The score would remain 3-0 in favor of Utica City as both teams entered into halftime.
The Blast would score late on in the third quarter as Vini Dantas took advantage of a scramble in the Utica City box to make the score 3-1. Five seconds later, Ricardo De Queiroz Diegues scored to give Utica City another three-goal lead. The Blast would end the third quarter with a 4-1 deficit.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Blast scored through Vini Dantas as he fired a penalty shot past the Utica City goalkeeper to make it a 4-2 score. The Blast employed a sixth attacker with two minutes remaining, but the Blast could not score and eventually lost 4-2.
Vini Dantas led the Blast in scoring with the only two goals in the game while Juan Pereira tallied one assist. Christian Segura led Utica City in scoring with two goals of his own. William Vanzela recorded six saves on ten shots faced while Andrew Coughlin compiled seven saves for Utica City. The Blast return to SECU Arena after the Thanksgiving break on Saturday December 7th at 6:05 PM to face off against the Orlando Seawolves.
