San Rafael Pacifics News Release
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Eric Bainer's 420-foot home run in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 1 -1 and started a six run rally for the Pacifics. Jeremy Williams capped off the rally with a deep three-run home run of his own giving the Pacifics a 6 - 1 lead. The late five run lead was insurmountable for the Admirals as the Pacifics took Friday night's game by a score of 6 - 2.
After surrendering a home run to Tillman Pugh to lead off the game, Pacifics starting pitcher Rob Ellis (1-0) settled down going seven innings with six hits, four strikeouts, and the one earned run in route to his first win in a Pacifics uniform.
Admirals starting pitcher Devon Ramirez went six scoreless innings allowing five hits and striking out three in the no decision. Relief pitcher Keith Eusebio gave up the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh on Bainer's solo home run. Admirals Bryan Herrera (1-4) suffers his fourth loss of the season allowing five runs, two earned, including the Williams home run, in his 1.2 innings of relief.
Tillman Pugh started the game off with a bang hitting his fourth home run of the season, a solo blast to left field. The home run would be the only run the Admirals would score for seven innings as Pacifics pitchers kept the Admirals at bay. Before the seventh inning the Pacifics scattered five hits but were unable to push across the tying run.
To lead off the seventh inning, Bainer crushed a ball to left field, which tied the game and sparked the Pacifics offense. After a walk by Evan Boyd, the Pacifics tallied three straight singles including the go ahead RBI by Zack Pace.
Boyd reached base on all four of his plate appearances going 3-3 and raising his batting average to a team high .308. Dancing king Maikel Jova went 2-4 with a run scored. After a fielder's choice and throwing error by P.J. Phillips, Jeremy Williams blasted a ball to center field for a three-run home run cementing the Pacifics 20th win of the season. The error was one of three made by Phillips.
Pacifics Michael Kershner went the final two innings to close out the game surrendering two hits and an earned run.
With the win the Pacifics (20-14) stay in first place with a one game lead over the Sonoma Stompers. With the loss the Admirals (18-16) fall to third place, two games back of the Pacifics. The second game in the three-game series at Albert Park is Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
