San Rafael Pacifics News Release
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Jordan Hinshaw was the difference maker for the Admirals (19-16) on Saturday night going 3-5 with a home run and two RBI. Pacifics (20-15) starting pitcher Patrick Conroy (4-2) took the loss going 5 2/3 innings surrendering 10 hits and four runs, while striking out four batters. Admirals Dennis Neal (2-1) scattered 10 hits and one run over seven innings in the Admirals 9-3 win over the Pacifics.
The Pacifics tallied 13 hits but could only push across three runs as they grounded into two double plays and had two runners caught stealing. Defensively the Pacifics made three errors, the biggest coming on a dropped ball by right fielder Ravel Santana in the top of the eighth inning with the bases loaded, which scored three runs for the Admirals.
P.J. Phillips got the scoring started for the Admirals in the top of the third inning with an RBI single scoring Joe Lewis. Nick Boggan followed with an RBI single of his own to give Vallejo the 2-0 lead. Phillips finished the night 3-5 with an RBI and run scored. Boggan finished going 2-4 with a home run and two RBI.
The Pacifics got a run back in the bottom of the third on an Evan Boyd RBI single scoring Eric Bainer who doubled earlier in the inning. The lone run would be all the Pacifics would score until the ninth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning the Admirals added to their lead on back-to-back solo home runs by Boggan (5) and Hinshaw (3). Hinshaw's hit was a standup inside-the-park home run that careened off the center field wall and bounced into right field. Dan Rogers relieved Conroy and went 1 2/3 innings allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits.
After adding a run in the seventh inning off a Hinshaw single, the Admirals broke the game open with three more runs in the eighth. All three runs were unearned coming off the Santana error in right field.
The Admirals tacked on one more run in the ninth off Pacifics reliever Chris Rice. In the bottom of the inning the Pacifics tried to rally but fell short scoring two runs on a Mike Orefice RBI double and a Chase Fontaine RBI single.
Pacifics Zack Pace went 3-4 with three singles and now has 13 hits over his past 10 games. Orefice went 2-4 with his 17 RBI and raised his batting average to .306.
With the loss the Pacifics (20-15) fall into a first place tie with the Sonoma Stompers. The win puts the Admirals (19-16) one game back from first place. The rubber match in the three-game series at Albert Park is Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
