Baggio Husidic Announces Retirement
March 7, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - LA Galaxy midfielder Baggio Husidic has retired from professional soccer, the player announced today. Husidic, 31, retires after a 10-year playing career that included eight seasons in MLS, five of which were spent with LA Galaxy.
Husidic, an MLS Cup Champion with the Galaxy in 2014, appeared in 154 MLS matches, making 101 starts and recording 18 goals and 14 assists. He played every match of the Galaxy's championship run in 2014.
"I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to spend the last 10 years of my life playing this game that I love," Husidic said. "I couldn't have predicted what my career would have looked like, but I am proud and grateful for everything I have been able to experience through soccer.
Having the opportunity to represent three fantastic clubs was very special. However, wearing the crest of the LA Galaxy, as well as being part of an MLS Cup winning side in 2014 was something I could have only dreamed of. Thanks to my coaches, my teammates, the front office and the fans for making this club feel like home for the past five years. I will cherish all of the amazing friendships forever. My family and I will forever be supporters of this great club."
Husidic began his professional career with the Chicago Fire in 2009 after being selected in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft. Husidic joined the Galaxy officially on Nov. 14, 2013 from Swedish Superettan side Hammarby. Originally born in Velika Kladusa, Bosnia (when it was still a part of the former Yugoslavia), Husidic was raised Libertyville, Ill and was a three-year starter at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
