Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Salisbury, MD - Back-to-back home runs by Drew Turbin and Cedric Mullins of the Delmarva Shorebirds were enough to hand the Kannapolis Intimidators a 3-2 loss on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Cody Daily extended his streak of reaching base safely to 25 games with a single in the top of the fourth inning. The streak is longest by an Intimidator since Michael Suiter also reached safely in 25 games during the second half of the 2015 season.
The Shorebirds plated all three of their runs and collected all three of their hits in the bottom of the third inning. Max Beatty pitched himself into trouble by issuing a leadoff walk to Gerrion Grim that was followed three pitches later by a Drew Turbin two-run homer to right. The next batter, Cedric Mullins then lifted a fly ball to right center field that neither Tyler Sullivan or Micker Adolfo called and dropped safely on the warning track. Mullins tore around the bases for an inside-the-park homerun sliding in safely at home just ahead of a tag from Intimidators catcher Seby Zavala.
Beatty (4-7) was hung with the loss after allowing three runs on three hits over his five innings of work while walking two and striking out four.
Francisco Jimenez (9-9) earned the win for Delmarva, allowing two runs, one earned, over his six inning performance while walking one and striking out two.
The Intimidators followed the Shorebirds three-run third with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Bradley Strong drove home Seby Zavala with a single to right and finished the night going 2-for-4 at the plate.
The following inning, Kannapolis pulled to within one run when Shorebirds shortstop Richardo Andujar misplayed a ground ball hit by Danny Mendick that scored Alex Call. Delmarva relievers Mike Burke and Jake Bray combined to shutout the Intimidators the rest of the way. Bray earned his second save of the season with two shutout innings of relief including a 1-2-3 top of the ninth.
The Intimidators continue the final series of the season with the second game the four game set with the Delmarva Shorebirds on Saturday, September 3 at 7:05 P.M. RHP Luis Martinez (7-9, 3.82 ERA) will take the ball for Kannapolis against Delmarva's RHP Ofelky Peralata (8-5, 4.01).
