Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - Luke Anders and Tommy Joseph hit back-to-back home runs for the Augusta GreenJackets in the sixth inning of a 4-3 win against the Asheville Tourists on Sunday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium
Trailing 3-1 entering the sixth, Chris Dominguez led off the frame with a seeing-eye single through the left side of the infield before Anders connected for his 12th home run of the season. The Anders blast cleared the wall in right-center at one of the deepest spots of the ballpark. Tommy Joseph followed with a prodigious blast down the left field line that stayed fair for his 14th home run of the season to give the Jackets their first lead of the game at 4-3.
Things didn't start so well for Augusta as Andy Reichard was touched up for three runs in the third inning on five consecutive singles to open the frame. Jared Clark knocked in two with one of those singles while Nolan Arenado drove home the inning's third run. Reichard (3-0) settled down after that, retiring the next 11 hitters he faced to earn his second win in his last three starts. He threw seven innings - matching a season-best - and scattered three runs on ten hits while striking out seven and walking none.
Augusta got onto the board in the bottom of the third inning on Chris Dominguez's bases loaded groundout which produced Dominguez's 74th RBI of the year and the first Jackets run of the afternoon.
Asheville lefty Jonathan Vargas (4-9) picked up the loss after allowing all four Augusta runs on seven this and three walks while striking out three.
The GreenJackets will send Jeremy Toole (4-5, 4.48) to the mound to try and even the series at two games apiece. Asheville opposes with right Juan Gonzalez (3-5, 3.83) on Monday night. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com .
