New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Cristhian Adames broke an eighth-inning tie with a two-run triple, and the New Orleans Baby Cakes snapped a seven-game losing streak by defeating the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 4-2 on Tuesday night.

Braxton Lee reached on a bunt single leading off the eighth, then beat out the throw to second on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Magneuris Sierra to put two on for Adames, whose sinking liner to center snuck past a diving Keon Broxton and allowed both runners to score. Jonathan Rodriguez followed with a grounder to score Adames with an insurance run.

Severino Gonzalez gave up a two-out solo home run to Tyrone Taylor in the ninth before securing his first save of the year and ending the New Orleans skid. The Baby Cakes have won five straight games at home.

Johnny Giavotella's second-inning RBI double had been enough for the 'Cakes to carry the lead through most of the night. Giavotella, the former Jesuit High School and University of New Orleans standout, drove in Rafael Ortega, who had walked and swiped second base with one out.

Sandy Alcantara turned in his first quality start at Triple-A by blanking the Sky Sox into the sixth inning. A lengthy at-bat with Brett Phillips ended in a two-out walk, and singles by Christhian Bethancourt and Ji-Man Choi produced the tying run for Colorado Springs.

Alcantara surrendered one run and four hits in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Jacob Turner (1-0), making his first appearance for New Orleans since 2013, pitched two innings of scoreless relief and earned the victory.

Giavotella's double was the only hit allowed by Sky Sox starter Bubba Derby in five innings. Radhames Liz (1-1) was charged with three runs on two hits and suffered the loss.

The homestand continues on Wednesday with the second game of the four-game set against Colorado Springs. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
