New Orleans VooDoo OL/DL B.J. Cohen has been named the Arena Football League's ADT Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in the VooDoo's 64-28 win over the Columbus Destroyers on April 16.

In Saturday's game, Cohen (6-2, 280, Marshall) recorded five solo tackles, one assisted tackle, one tackle for a three yard loss, one pass defense and three sacks for -18 yards. Cohen set a new VooDoo single-game record for sacks. Cohen's first sack, which occurred on Columbus' first drive of the game resulted in a safety to give New Orleans a 2-0 lead. This was the first safety ever recorded by a New Orleans player.

"I think B.J. really got the whole thing started with that sack on the first play," said VooDoo Coach Mike Neu. "B.J. came out and set the tempo of the game. He has been one of the top linemen in the league for a long time and has been one of our team's leaders since coming here."

This is the fourth weekly AFL award for Cohen during his seven-year career. He has captured two Defensive Player of the Week awards and two Ironman of the Week honors.

The VooDoo's leader on the line, Cohen has enjoyed one of the finest seasons of his career in 2005, recording 21 tackles (18 solo), a career-high eight sacks, one tackle for a loss, one interception and a career-high six passes defensed, adding five receptions for 25 yards offensively. Cohen is currently ranked second in the AFL in sacks and is tied for first in the league with nine combined tackles for a loss.

The VooDoo return to action this Saturday, April 23, when they travel to face the Grand Rapids Rampage at the Van Andel Arena at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Cox Sports Television at 6:30 p.m. and can be heard live on WSMB 1350 AM.
