Austin Aztex News Release
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona - The Austin Aztex (4-4-1) were unable to hold an early lead, losing 3-2 and dropping their second game of the season to Arizona United SC (4-3-1).
Two early goals by Kris Tyrpak and Trevin Caesar gave the Aztex an early advantage just 15 minutes in the game, but Arizona United SC mounted a comeback that started and ended through a pair of penalty kicks.
The Aztex stormed out to an early lead with two goals in the opening 15 minutes. In the ninth minute, Aztex defender Kyle Hoffer tossed in a long throw-in which was punched away by Arizona goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski. The attempted clearance went straight to Kris Tyrpak, who quickly hit the ball into the oppentent's goal for Tyrpak's team-leading fifth goal of the season. Trevin Caesar would add to the lead six minutes later when he dribbled the ball through the heart of Arizona's defense, took a turn toward goal and slammed the ball into the net.
Arizona's comeback would start after the referee awarded the home team a penalty kick in the 35^th minute after Joesph Shinsky went down in the penalty area. Arizona forward Brad Stisser converted the penalty kick. Shortly after the goal, the Aztex were forced to use an early substitution, sending in Brian Fekete for Tyrpak.
Arizona would continue to crawl back into the game and struck early in the second half to nod the game even. Milton Blanco won a loose ball in the midfield and worked his way up the middle of the field before hitting Long Tan with the pass. Tan, with his back to the goal, took a quick first touch to pivot around his defender for a one-versus-one with Aztex goalkeeper Cody Laurendi. Tan struck low and true for the equalizing goal.
Arizona would seize the lead twenty minutes later when they were awarded their second penalty kick of the evening after Blanco was fouled in the penalty area. Tan took the attempt and converted for his second goal of the game, forcing the Aztex to try and mount a comeback for the second consecutive game.
This time, the Aztex were unable to muster a dramatic goal at the end of the game.
