Aztex Face OKC Energy on the Road
August 28, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Aztex News Release
AUSTIN, Texas (August 27, 2015)- The Austin Aztex (8-12-3) look to build on their previous win when they travel to face second-place OKC Energy FC (11-5-7) on Saturday, August 29 at 7 p.m. CDT.
In order to make a late-season charge, the Aztex will need to continue their streak-breaking ways. In their last match, the Aztex defeated Orange County Blues 1-0, who entered the match with a four-game winning streak and a six-game unbeaten streak. Now, the Aztex face an OKC Energy FC squad that is carrying a four-game winning streak and an overall eight-game unbeaten streak into Saturday's matchup.
This will be the third and final match of the regular season between the two squads. In their first meeting, Drew Yates netted a brace in a 2-2 draw at House Park in May. In their most recent match, Kyle Greig was able to take advantage of an Aztex miscue in front of goal in what resulted in a tightly-contested 1-0 loss for the Aztex. Through 23 matches, the Aztex have played in 16 matches decided by one goal or less, including their two meetings with Energy FC.
The Aztex offense is led by Kris Tyrpak and Trevin Caesar, both tied for the team lead in goals scored with eight. Yates, who missed the previous two matches due to injury, will be a game-time decision for Saturday's match.
Defensively, the Aztex will rely on their backline of Mikey Ambrose, Fernando Timbo, team captain Lance Rozeboom, and Max Gunderson to contain OKC's offense. The Energy FC offense is led by prolific scorer Danni König, who enters the match with a league-leading 19 goals scored. Joining König in attack is Greig, with seven goals to his name.
OKC Energy FC will also have their newest signing, Kalen Ryden, at their disposal. Ryden played in nine matches for the Aztex at the beginning of the season as a loanee from Columbus Crew SC.
