The Kingsport Axmen beat the Burlington Sock Puppets by a final score of 6-2. In the two-game series sweep over Burlington, the Axmen out-hit the Sock Puppets by 14 and outscored them by 11 runs.
Burlington (25-10) outfielder Kole Myers led off the game with an infield single and from that point on, the Axmen surrendered no hits.
Burlington scored one run in each of the first two innings, but the Axmen (24-9) cut the lead to one in the bottom of the second on a Kyle Booker RBI groundout. Booker went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored.
Kingsport tied the game in the third on an Ian Riley sac-fly. Riley went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Riley is now on a 25-game on-base streak.
The Axmen scored two runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead in the bottom of the and would stay in front for the remainder of the game. Nate Anderson singled home Booker and Gunner Gouldsmith singled home Henry Hunter.
Gouldsmith went 2-for-4 and Anderson went 3-for-5. Anderson is now on a 15-game on-base streak.
The Axmen scored one run in both the seventh and eighth innings to double their lead to four at 6-2.
Kingsport starting LHP Tommy Meyer (3-0, 4.91 ERA) picked up his third win of the season. Meyer allowed one hit, two walks, two runs and struck out five batters over five innings.
The Axmen begin a five-game road trip on Wednesday night, as they visit the Elizabethton River Riders for a two-game series.
