Salem RidgeYaks News Release

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem Avalanche, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth inning Saturday night-six of whom scored-en route to a 10-4 victory over Winston-Salem on Ernie Shore Field. The Avs (5-3) saw six consecutive players reach base against Winston-Salem (3-2) in the frame.

Salem held a 4-2 edge when the inning started as Wladimir Sutil singled to left. He was thrown out at second to create the first out. Next, Cesar Quintero and Tim Torres posted back-to-back doubles to score a run against lefty Israel Chirino. After Jordan Parraz walked and Ori was hit by a pitch, the Warthogs replaced Chirino with righty Steven Spurgeon. The following batter, Orlando Rosales, singled Torres home to keep the bases loaded. On the next pitch, Ryan Reed bounced a ball under the glove of second baseman C.J. Lang. Right fielder Lee Cruz, attempting to throw Mark Ori out at home, whistled the ball to the backstop for the second error on the same play. The final run came across two batters later on a Jhon Florentino RBI single.

Winston-Salem scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run home run from Salvador Sanchez but did not score again versus the Salem trio of Chris Salamida, Josh Appell and Bryan Hallberg.

For the Avs, Wladimir Sutil set a new career high with four hits in the game. Also, Jordan Parraz equaled a career best with three runs scored while Orlando Rosales tied a career mark with three RBI. Salamida earned the win, his second of the season.

Salem aims for a third straight series win to open '08 at 2 PM Sunday in Winston-Salem. Righty Corey Bass opposes Warthog Michael Dubee.
