Salem RidgeYaks News Release
Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, got a second seven-inning shutout from Polin Trinidad and a pair of home runs Monday night in earning a 7-0 win Monday night over visiting Frederick Monday night on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. It was Trinidad's second straight seven-inning start without allowing a run.
While Trinidad surrendered just one baserunner through five innings, the Avalanche leapt on Frederick's Brandon Erbe. The first two Salem batters of the game reached as Jhon Florentino and Jordan Parraz-both first-pitch swinging-singled. The next batter, Mark Ori, grounded a ball to the right side of the infield to score Florentino.
In the second, Salem struck again as Kevin Carkeek notched his first Carolina-League RBI with a double to left. Florentino drove him in later for the third Salem run.
The fourth tally crossed on a pair of doubles in the third as Mark Ori came first with a double to right. Two batters later, Koby Clemens' own two-base hit plated Ori.
In the fifth, the Avs jabbed Erbe again, this time with the long ball. With one out and Ori at first, Jimmy Van Ostrand blasted a 2-0 pitch over the left-field fence for a 6-0 lead. The final run crossed in the eighth when Koby Clemens launched a solo shot to left to open the eighth inning.
Trinidad snared the win-his third of '08--with his scoreless seven. He allowed just two hits and walked one while striking four out.
The Avs and Keys play again Tuesday night at 7:07 as righty Casey Hudspeth faces Frederick's Pedro Beato.
