Aviators Drop Series Finale to Grizzlies, 9-5

Rockford Aviators News Release

Loves Park, ILLINOIS - The Rockford Aviators dropped their series finale 9-5 to the Gateway Grizzlies Thursday, surrendering 8 runs in the 7th inning to turn a 3-0 lead into an 8-3 deficit. The loss was the 17th of the year for the Aviators.

The Aves got off to a great start behind Tony Rizzotti. The righty pitched 6 scoreless frames without so much as allowing a man in scoring position, and Elijah Trail gave him a 2-0 lead by blasting off for his 6th homerun of the season in the 4th. He went off against Grizzlies starter Donny Murray to make it an early Aviator advantage.

3-0 was the score as the Aviators took the field for the 7th. But that lead would not hold as the Grizzlies drove Rizzotti from the game and then tagged up a string of 3 relievers for 7 base hits and 8 runs to take an 8-3 advantage.

The Aviators got a couple back on a 2 RBI single by Tyler Smith, but would get no closer than 8-5. The Grizzlies tacked on a run in the ninth and prevailed by 4. David Wayne Russo took the loss, while Jordan Sprenger got the win.

The Aviators welcome the Washington Wild Things to town tomorrow starting at 7:05 pm. It will be a seat cushion giveaway at Aviators Stadium. Call 815-885-2255 or email tickets@rockfordaviators.com to secure your tickets for the series.
