Joliet Slammers News Release

Joliet, IL- Starter Hunter Ackerman allows just one run in seven innings pitched, but the Joliet Slammers (21-27) can't capitalize falling 1-0 to the Frontier Greys (22-24) on Thursday night.

The Greys squandered an opportunity to score against Ackerman in the first inning, as 2B Brandon Tierney was tagged out trying to advance to second on a double steal before LF Shane Brown could score for the final out in the inning.

After allowing four hits through the first three innings, Ackerman calmed down to retire twelve straight. Frontier would find the score sheet in the seventh when RF Dillon Haupt doubled to lead off the frame. 3B Zach Tanner drove him in with a single to right center, giving the Greys a 1-0 lead.

The Slammers threatened to tie the game in the eighth, putting runners on first and second with only one out. But 1B Adam Giacalone struck out and C John Cannon grounded out to end the frame.

Joliet had another opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, RF Hunter Ridge singled and Sam Klein came in to pinch run. Giacalone followed with a single putting two on. That is as far as the rally would go though as Greys' closer Nick Anderson retired pinch hitter Jack Cleary and 2B Max Casper for his eighth save of the year.

Slammers' starter Hunter Ackerman (1-2) was our Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Player of the Game. The left hander went seven innings while giving up just one earned run and struck out five. Joliet opens up a series with the Southern Illinois Miners tomorrow night with the first pitch set for 7:05pmCT. Catch the game on jolietslammers.com/gameday/slammervision
