Salem RidgeYaks News Release
Salem, VA - The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, earned its second extra-inning win of the season Friday night 2-1in 11 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Tommy Manzella's 3rd hit of the game scored Eric King to decide the game.
With one out in the inning, King singled to the third-base side. After a Josh Flores ground out, Manzella swung at an 0-1 pitch from sidearmer Randy Newsom and smoked it down the right field line to plate King. Manzella's now five for his last nine in the past two games.
Salem got another stellar start from Brad James. He surrendered just one earned run in six innings and two-thirds. He's now made it through 26 innings and two-thirds with just two runs across against him.
The lone run tied the game in the seventh as Josh Rodriguez belted a long ball to left-center field.
Salem had taken the lead on a triple off the bat of JR. Towles in the fifth. It was his second two-bagger of the year.
The Avs are now 2-0 this season in extra innings. Both games have come in front of the home crowd.
Saturday's game begins at 6:07 with lefty Chris Salamdia aiming for his first high-A victory. He opposes Kinston righty Frank Herrmann.
