Austin Tosses Eight Strong, Wild Things Fall in One-Run Game

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Michael Austin threw eight innings and allowed just one unearned run in what was his best start of the season, but a blown lead in the ninth inning cost the Wild Things in the middle game, as Joliet took it 2-1.
Hector Roa's 15th home run of the season gave Washington the only run that was scored in the first eight innings of the game, in the second. Joliet received a lead-off single from Chaz Meadows to start the ninth. An error would allow the next runner to reach. After a sac bunt and an intentional walk, a bases-loaded walk issued by Zach Strecker tied the game before Peyton Isaacson's sac fly plated the game winner for the Slammers. The run was unearned against Strecker but he took the loss.
The Wild Things managed just four hits, with two coming from Hector Roa. Austin tossed eight innings and change and allowed the one run for a no decision.
Now Washington and Joliet will turn to tomorrow's rubber game, which is slated for 7:05 p.m.
