AUSTIN, TX (August 21, 2009)- Today the Austin Toros and the American Cancer Society announced a new partnership in the fight against cancer.

The Austin Toros, like the American Cancer Society, are committed to winning the fight against cancer and know that it takes strength and knowledge to win the battle that too many face with cancer.

"We welcome the Toros to our team that includes local volunteers, health care providers, researchers, journalists, corporations, contributors and survivors," said Art Wolff, Regional Vice President of Field Operations-Central Texas. "I'm excited about the opportunity to partner with the Toros."

Together, the organizations will focus on raising awareness about the disease and how to lower the risk of cancer through exercise and nutrition. The year -long partnership will feature messages during Toros home games, community nights featuring the community's relay for life team, as well as community events attended by players

"We've all been affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly," said Peter Lubell, Chief Operating Officer of the Toros. "As dedicated members of the Austin community, it is our goal to not only raise awareness of this devastating disease and support those going through it, but to celebrate the survivors who have given every ounce of their strength to fight for their lives."

The partnership will kick off with the Great American Eat Right Challenge, in which Toros staff will compete with the community to reach their exercise goals. The competition will begin on August 21 and fans are encouraged to join by going to the Toros web site at www.austintoros.com/community.

Cancer is a disease that knows no age, gender, or race, and it affects over 9,000 people in Central Texas. It takes a team to win the fight and we welcome you to become a part of our team.
