AUSTIN - The Austin Spurs today announced that Emmanuel Mavomo has been named assistant coach.
Mavomo (MA-Vo-Moe) joins Austin after recently serving as a guest coach with the Utah Jazz in the 2K24 NBA Summer League as part of the Africa Coaches Program. This initiative was part of the NBA Africa and Basketball Africa League's (BAL) commitment to building the expertise of coaches from across the continent, improving the quality of the on-court product, and contributing to the continued growth of basketball in Africa.
Prior to the Jazz, Mavomo served as head coach of the BC Espoir Fukash of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for the 2022 BAL season. In the same year, he was also an assistant coach for Paris Basketball in Betclic Elite.
Originally from Kinshasa (DRC), Mavomo started his career as an assistant coach for Petro de Luanda (Angola) that won the 2015 Africa Club Championship title. Mavomo also helped qualify the Angola National Team for the FIBA World Cup in 2019.
