Austin FC News Release
Austin, TEXAS - Austin FC fell in a 4-2 defeat to LAFC on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. The loss, coupled with results elsewhere, eliminates Austin from Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs contention.
After a competitive start, LAFC opened the scoring through Timothy Tillman. Collecting a pass from Dénis Bouanga, Tillman's low strike found the bottom corner to give the visitors the lead. Later in the first half, Brad Stuver made an excellent kick save to deny Bouanga at the near post.
Bouanga eventually found LAFC's second goal though, scoring from the penalty spot moments before halftime. The Gabonese striker netted another in the 54th minute from close range, and Cristian Olivera got the team's fourth in the 68th minute to seal the result.
Though a result was out of reach, Austin did pull two goals back in the closing stages. Leo Väisänen scored his first goal for Austin in the 75th minute, heading in a cross from Dani Pereira, and a late LAFC own goal gave the Verde & Black their final home tally of the season.
