Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Aberdeen Wings hosted the Austin Bruins on Friday night inside the Odde Ice Center. The Wings were coming off a two-game road series sweep of the Bruins last weekend. The Odde Ice Center had another huge crowd thanks to the 1,474 fans that showed up for the battle of #1 teams in the NAHL Central Division. The Wings however would fall 1-0 to Austin, despite one of the hardest fought battles all season long.
In the first period, Austin forward Luke Forfar had a tough angle but found the back of the net at the 2:42 mark. That would prove to be the only score of the game. The intensity of the game was based on the powerful battles along the boards by both teams. Austin had 4 penalties for 8 minutes in the first period, while Aberdeen had 2 penalties for 6 minutes. In the third period, at the 3:18 mark, the Wings would stand up to Austin after some unnecessary play. Wings forward #25 Tucker DeYoung (F-Lake Bluff, IL) would drop the gloves with Bruins forward Zach Kennedy. DeYoung would connect twice before manhandling Kennedy to the ice. Shortly afterwards, Bruins forward Alex Pettersson would deliver a brutal blow to Wings defenseman #29 Matt Sherman (D-White Lake, MI) against the boards earning himself a game misconduct and boarding major resulting in a game ejection. Pettersson compiled a total of 19 penalty minutes. The Aberdeen Wings responded by placing 17 shots on goal in the span of roughly 10 minutes. Though a loss, the Wings received an outstanding performance from goaltender #35 Andrew Shortridge (G-Eagle River, AK). The loss would be his first of the season, but Shortridge is still the highest rated goaltender in the North American Hockey League after the evening.
The Aberdeen Wings will host the Austin Bruins again Saturday night inside the Odde Ice Center. Another jam-packed crowd is expected to rock 'The Odde' and fans can get in on special ticket offers. College students can present their student I.D. at the ticket counter for $2 off general admission. Student IDs must be current. Fans can also purchase a barstool in our corporate area with a drink ticket for $15. To reserve your seat for Saturday night's game, call 605-380-5852.
