Soo Eagles News Release
The Soo Eagles Billet and Education Coordinator, Cathy Tibbett, is back once again to make sure that the players make the grade.
Cathy has been with the Soo Eagles for 7 years. She is a vital part of our organization, and her responsibilities include finding the right billet family, and matching players up with the family. She ensures there is a background check performed on all of the billet families. Cathy also is in charge of the education for all of the players, which is one of the most critical areas that Cathy spends a lot of her time on.
As Education Coordinator, Cathy assists high school age students and their parents, to enroll in Sault Area High School, or on-line school of choice. She also monitors student grades and attendance on a weekly basis, attends parent-teacher conferences, reports student progress to parents, assists students in completing assignments, and helps find tutors for students as needed. Cathy also communicates team schedules and expected student absences to high school staff, and assists students and parents in completing NCAA Clearing House forms, which at times can be a very arduous task.
Cathy's responsibilities doesn't stop at the high school level, it also goes to the next level, college. She assists players in registering for college classes, finds tutors for players as needed, assist players in completing college entrance forms, sets-up ACT test preparation classes, and assist players in registering for retake of ACT.
Cathy also compiles a spreadsheet for the team, with educational data, including schools attended, grade point average, ACT/SAT scores and contact information for players. She also sends this education data to colleges and universities, as requested by a coach. Cathy also hosts her world famous "Taco Night" every Tuesday, where Soo Eagles players enjoy a feast fit for a king, or many of them in this case.
Cathy is one of the many Soo Eagles Volunteers that abide to the mission statement of developing a tradition of academic growth, athletic skills, leadership, self-esteem, self-discipline, integrity, teamwork and sportsmanship.
