Austin Bold FC News Release
Austin, TX Austin Bold FC fell to El Paso Locomotive 1-0 at Bold Stadium on Thursday night. A tight match that saw both sides limited to only one shot on target apiece was decided by a second-half strike from El Paso's Diego Luna. The Bold attempted to find an equalizer late, but it was the visitors who left with all three points on the night. Austin Bold will have to bounce back quickly as they travel east to go up against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds this Sunday. Follow the match live on ESPN+.
Both Austin Bold and El Paso Locomotive struggled to create scoring chances in the first half. Each side's defense was resolute. The Bold's best opportunity came in the early minutes when the ball landed to Xavi Baez after a free-kick, and his outside-the-box shot was handled by goalkeeper Adrián Zendejas.
After a scoreless first half, El Paso broke the deadlock in the 56' when Macauley King found Luna unmarked at the back post to nod home a header from the left side of the six-yard box to the bottom right corner.
The Bold searched for an equalizer and got close in the 81' when an Owayne Gordon glancing header just missed the bottom corner. The stern El Paso defense shut out the Austin attack in the final minutes to give the visitors all three points on the night.
Austin Bold FC returns to Bold Stadium on June 22 at 8:00 PM to take on Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. With single-game tickets starting at $15 and season ticket memberships starting at $190, every member of the Bold Familia has a way to cheer on their neighborhood soccer club.
Post Match Quotes:
Austin Bold FC head coach Marcelo Serrano on the lack of scoring chances for The Bold.
"I believe we didn't create a lot of chances tonight. We had a lot of the ball, but in the final third we didn't create enough chances. How many saves did Elliot (Panicco) have today? Zero. I think El Paso's goal was their only chance. This one goal can't define who we are. I think our team was not as competitive as we should have been."
Austin Bold FC head coach Marcelo Serrano on getting ready for Sunday's match.
"I have to see tomorrow on who's healthy and who's not. We travel on Saturday. I just need to see who's healthy, then I start tomorrow."
