SRFC Trio Selected for World Cup Qualifiers
June 4, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
With the FIFA World Cup window approaching, a trio of members of the Indomitable Club have been summoned into duty to compete on the international stage.
Republic FC striker Kharlton Belmar, goalkeeper Rafael Diaz, and winger Shannon Gomez have been selected by Grenada, Dominican Republic, and Trinidad and Tobago as the three counties look to advance of the next round of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying.
Gomez earns his first Trinidad and Tobago call-up for a World Cup Qualifier when his side take on the Bahamas in Nassau on Saturday, June 5 before the Soca Warriors host current Group F leaders - Saint Kitts and Nevis. Trinidad and Tobago sit in second place with four points from its first two matches. Gomez was first summoned into national team duty in 2015.
Diaz returns to the Dominican Republic Men's National team after a successful March camp with the team where he earned his first international cap. Rafa recorded two shutout wins in the opening matches in Group D competition.
Belmar will re-join the Grenada Men's National team after splitting the first two matches in Group A. This call up represents Kharlton's second selection with Grenada, following his first call-up and international cap in March.
The second window of World Cup Qualifying group stage fixtures began on Wednesday and will run through June 8.
Diaz's Dominican Republic team will host Barbados on June 4 at 4:00 p.m. PT. in Santo Domingo before playing Panama on the road on June 8.
Belmar's Grenada side will visit Antigua and Barbuda on June 4 at 1 p.m. PT before the Spice Boyz host Montserrat on June 8.
Gomez's Trinidad and Tobago team take on the Bahamas on June 5 at 2 p.m. PT before playing Saint Kitts and Nevis on June 8. Both of Gomez's WCQ matches with the Soca Warriors will be broadcast live on the Paramount+ App, available here.
Diaz's matchup against Panama will also be available to stream live on Paramount+ as well.
