Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas (November 11, 2014) - The Austin Aztex were named finalists for two USL Organizational Awards Tuesday afternoon. The Aztex are among the finalists for USL PDL's Marketing Award as well as the league's Broadcast Award.

"It is a great honor to be named among the league's top franchises for these awards", Aztex Director of Marketing Jeffrey Burns said. "To earn recognition for these awards is a testament to the hard work the Aztex staff and the Austin community have put into the team to create a truly unique atmosphere."

This previous season, the Aztex worked with Texas Student Media to air all home games live on YouTube and online at KVRX.org. The additional footage helped provide fans with the opportunity to catch the Aztex from their computer as well as enhanced post game highlight footage with additional camera angles and commentary.

The Aztex also increased their presence in the community during the summer season. On July 1, the Aztex cohosted a USA World Cup Watch Party with the Long Center, earning Austin Chronicle's 2014 Best of Austin Award for Best Sport's Party. During the playoffs, the Aztex introduced a beer garden feature to the game day atmosphere, helping draw more than 4,700 fans to House Park for the Southern Conference semifinal playoffs.

This marks the third consecutive year the Aztex were named finalists for a league award. In 2012, the Aztex received the Marketing Award and Director of Operations Ric Granryd was named the Betsy McAdams Key Grip Award Winner for best front office executive. The team was also a finalist for the Rookie Franchise of the Year.

In 2013, the Aztex added the USL PDL Organization of the Year award as well as the Fair Play Award. The 2013 awards capped off a successful campaign in which the Aztex won the league championship while Head Coach Paul Dalglish won Coach of the Year Award. In addition, Kris Tyrpak won USL PDL Most Valuable Player while Sito Seoane won playoffs MVP. That year, the Aztex were also named finalists for USL PDL's Communications Award while David Markley was finalist for Executive of the Year and Ric Granryd was finalist for the Betsy McAdams Key Grip Award.
