November 11, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

Harrisburg, PA-The Islanders are excited to announce an additional Pro Team tryout to their winter tryout series in Fort Wayne, Indiana scheduled for January 7 and 8. The tryout is open to all experienced soccer players who compete collegiately, professionally, or internationally.

The Plex will serve as the Harrisburg City Islanders official 2015 Midwest professional combine site. The Tryout will take place at "The Plex South" (5702 Engle Road) in Fort Wayne, IN on Wednesday, January 7 from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. and Thursday, January 8 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. All tryout participants should plan to arrive early on both days for registration.

The City Islanders are coming off of a successful 2014 campaign where they finished as finalists in the 2014 USL PRO Championship, losing to Sacramento Republic FC (2-0). With a record of 14-12-7 and competing with one of the youngest teams in the league, with an average age of 22 years old, the City Islanders entered the 2014 USL PRO playoffs as a number 8 seed. They then went on to defeat regular season champions, Orlando City in the quarter-finals of the USL PRO playoffs and moved on to defeat number four seed, Richmond Kickers, to move on to the championship match in Sacramento.

The Islanders' current goal is to scout players, and those who stand out will be selected to participate in a trial with the pro team and possibly offered professional contracts.

Head Coach, Bill Becher, who began his professional career with the Fort Wayne Flames believes the area has much untapped talent to offer the club. "Open tryouts are always an important tool for us," Becher said. "Islander Players Yann Ekra and Morgan Langley, who both started in last years USL PRO final were chosen from open tryouts."

Home of United States National Team phenom Damarcus Beasley, the facilities of The Plex have evolved into one of the largest and most comprehensive indoor sports, recreation and event sites in the Midwest. The Islanders hope to tap into their market for exceptional talent, giving their kids the opportunity to play soccer at a professional level and our club the opportunity to build upon last season's successes.

"The Plex South is proud to host the USL Pro Team Tryouts for the Harrisburg City Islanders and thank the USL for recognizing the extraordinary level of soccer talent in this area. We believe these tryouts will yield great results." Said Bobby Poursanidis, General Partner of Indoor Sports Enterprises.

Due to retirement and player movement there are MANY open spots in ALL positions available on the 2014 USL PRO Finalist team's roster.
