Austin Aztex News Release
AUSTIN, Texas (Sunday, May 24, 2015) - Tulsa Roughnecks FC defeated the Austin Aztex 1-0, Sunday afternoon at House Park. With the victory, Tulsa advances to (3-4-2) on the season, while the Aztex fall back to (4-5-1).
Steven Miller scored an early Roughnecks goal in the 24th minute, which would be the difference in the game.
The Roughnecks came out strong in the first half, creating chances off of the counter-attack. The match remained scoreless until the 24th minute, when Gibson Bardsley crossed the ball in front of the goal. Chad Bond drew the defense, but dummied the ball and let it pass through to Steven Miller, who held off a defender on his back and put away the games first goal in the right corner of the net.
The Aztex would prove to get their chances throughout the game, continuously finding an open header in front of Tulsa's goal. However, the shots were fired right at goalkeeper Zac Lubin, who was able to contain the shot attempts.
The second half was closely fought, with the Roughnecks limiting Aztex clean chances and continuing to attack on the fast break. The Aztex were unable to find the equalizer, despite late chances in the box.
The Aztex will be without Guaraci Oliviera for the next USL game, as a yellow-card in the 80th minute marked his 5th of the season, resulting in an automatic one-game suspension.
The Aztex will shift to U.S. Open Cup action on Wednesday, May 27th in San Antonio, with a sudden-death, single elimination match against the San Antonio Scorpions. The winner of the Third Round match will advance to face the Houston Dynamo.
The Aztex will continue their USL season on Sunday, May 31st with an away game versus Oklahoma City Energy FC.
