STL FC Battles to Draw with Louisville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A wild game that featured six goals and an hour-long weather delay ended in a 3-3 draw between USL rivals Saint Louis FC and Louisville City FC Sunday night at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in front of 4,783 fans.
With the draw, STL FC moves to 3-3-2 (11 pts.) on the season and is 2-1-1 on its current homestand. Louisville went to 4-1-4 (16 pts.) with the result.
"It's a battle, it's a rivalry," STL FC Head Coach Dale Schilly said. "James (O'Connor) is a good coach, and Louisville is very talented and organized. By virtue of having two good teams going against each other, it makes for a natural rivalry."
Jermie Lynch put the hosts on the board in the 20th minute, capitalizing on an error from LCFC goalkeeper Scott Goodwin to score from close range. It was the Jamaican's second goal in as many games.
Louisville was back on level terms within ten minutes, however, as Matt Fondy was the beneficiary of a mix-up in the Saint Louis defense to slot into an empty net to tie the game at 1-1.
After halftime, the rain started to fall and STL FC went back into the lead. In the 61st minute, Mike Ambersley let fly with a left-footed strike from 20 yards, beating Goodwin at the far post.
After a sixty-minute weather delay halted the match in the 63rd minute, the teams came back onto the field and produced a flurry of three goals in less than 10 minutes.
Louisville tied things up once again in the 75th minute, when Fondy bundled home his second of the night on a goalmouth scramble.
Just minutes later, however, Ambersley was taken down by a charging Goodwin, earning a penalty kick for STL FC. Bryan Gaul stepped up and calmly scored from the spot to put Saint Louis back in the lead at 3-2.
The lead would last just five minutes, as Louisville found its third equalizer of the match in the 83rd minute. This time, it was Nate Polak scoring off a set piece.
Despite the result, Schilly was still pleased with his team's performance.
"For us to score three goals against a team who hasn't given up a goal in four or five matches says a lot about the way our guys played today," Schilly added.
Saint Louis FC will be back in action Wednesday night when it hosts Minnesota United FC in the U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
