Augusta Opens Home Stand with Fourth Straight Win

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (15-15) opened an eight game home stand on Saturday night with a 2-1 win over the Rome Braves (11-18). Augusta rallied back with two late runs and Brock Bond extended his hit streak to 16 games with a base hit.

Augusta trailed 1-0 heading into the seventh inning but plated single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take a 2-1 lead.

In the seventh inning Thomas Neal came through a two-out RBI double scoring Shane Jordan to tie the game at 1-1. Jordan worked a walk with one out in the frame to reach base.

In the eighth inning Augusta broke the tie when Jackson Williams connected for an RBI sac-fly to right scoring Angel Villalona from third base. Villalona reached first with one out when he was hit by a pitch. Villalona then went first to third on a wild pitch to get into scoring position for Williams.

Daryl Maday (2-1) recorded the win in relief with three shutout innings and the right-hander did not allow a hit. Maday walked one and struck out three.

Benino Pruneda (1-2) suffered his third blown save of the season allowing two runs on one hit while walking two and striking out four.

Augusta starter Orlando Yntema recorded the no-decision allowing one run on four hits over six innings. Yntema did not walk a batter and struck out four. The right-hander retired the first 10 batters of the ball game before allowing a base hit to Michael Fisher.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a one-out RBI double from Cody Johnson scoring Fisher.

The GreenJackets and Braves continue their series Sunday afternoon with Augusta sending lefty Steven Calicutt (1-1, 3.43) to the mound. Rome counters with southpaw Chad Rodgers (1-4, 4.50). First pitch is at 2:05 pm.
