Rome, GA -The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves 9-5 in front of 2,152 fans at State Mutual Stadium Monday night. Augusta takes the series two games to one.
The GreenJackets scored the first run of the game in the second inning on an RBI single by Mike Loberg for the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning the Braves tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by Joel Campusano. Augusta took the lead in the third 2-1 on a Josh Mazzola RBI single. In the fourth Charlie Culberson scored on a Loberg single to give the GreenJackets a 3-1 lead. The Braves cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning on a Stephen Shults solo homerun to right centerfield.
Augusta added two runs in the fifth for the 5-2 advantage highlighted by an RBI double by C.J. Ziegler, who later came around to score on a pass ball. In the seventh the GreenJackets added three more insurance runs coming from an RBI single by Loberg, and a two RBI triple by James Simmons for the 8-2 score. The Braves added three of their own in the bottom of the inning on a three run blast by Gerry Rodriguez to close to 8-5. Augusta added one run in the eighth on an RBI single by Culberson to close out the scoring giving the GreenJackets 9-5 win.
Aaron King (1-0) gets the win for the GreenJackets while Paul Clemons (0-3) was the losing pitcher for the Braves. Andrew Reichard recorded his first save of the season for Augusta.
