Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - Bryan Augenstein finally surrendered a run in his last start, but he wouldn't be had again on Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium as he tossed seven scoreless frames to help the BayBears pull off a 2-0 victory over the Birmingham Barons.
With the victory, the BayBears (13-6) reclaim first place as Augenstein (4-0) ended up with six strikeouts while allowing just three singles. He was given the lead in the opening inning as the BayBears tagged Aaron Poreda (1-3) for both of their runs.
Poreda allowed a sharp single to Chris Rahl to start the contest while Mark Hallberg quickly followed with an RBI double to bring home Rahl. Two batters later, Hallberg found the plate as he was singled in by Ricardo Sosa on a 3-0 pitch.
Poreda settled in from there and only gave up one more hit. The BayBears threatened in the eighth as they had two men in scoring position with one out until Clevelan Santeliz entered and fanned every batter he faced.
Daniel Stange (S, 3) provided the BayBears with a job well done in the final two innings as he gave up one hit and fanned two including Dayan Viciedo to end the ballgame.
Cody Evans (2-1, 4.06) hurls for the BayBears in the rubber game of their five-game set with the Barons on Wednesday morning at 11:35 a.m. For Hank Aaron Stadium ticket information, please call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
