Biscuits Even Series with Tuesday Win over Suns

Montgomery, Ala. - Rhyne Hughes and Jason Bowers belted homeruns while starter Ryan Morse allowed one hit over five innings leading the Montgomery Biscuits (8-11) to a 7-2 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (11-8) in front of 5,989 Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium.

Morse (1-3) allowed one hit over five scoreless innings with three walks and five strikeouts in a winning decision.

Suns starter Aaron Thompson (1-2) allowed six runs and nine hits over six innings with two walks and three strikeouts in his second loss of the season.

Montgomery jumped ahead in the third inning on a Brandon Chaves single that scored Drew Anderson for a 1-0 lead. The next batter Rhyne Hughes belted a two-run homerun, his Southern League-leading seventh, for a 3-0 lead.

The Biscuits added three more runs in the fourth inning, first on a two-run homerun from Jason Bowers for a 5-0 lead. Desmond Jennings scored on a Thompson wild pitch for a 6-0 Montgomery lead.

Jacksonville scored in the sixth inning on a leadoff homerun from Matt Craig, his third of the year, for a 6-1 score. Andy Jenkins later doubled in Kevin Randel to cut the Montgomery lead to 6-2.

Montgomery added an insurance run in the eighth inning, as Ian Paxton scored on a Desmond Jennings single for a 7-2 final.

Suns RH Cristhian Martinez will face Biscuits LH Jason Cromer in the series-deciding game Wednesday at 8:05 p.m. ET at Riverwalk Stadium. Live broadcast coverage is available on WFXJ-AM 930 and online at milb.com.
