BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 19, 2005 (QMJHL) - Lewiston MAINEiacs forward Mathieu Aubin and Victoriaville Tigres defenseman Maxim Noreau were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from December 12th to 18th
In two games, Aubin tallied two goals, including one game-winner, and five assists, notching a +1 (plus/minus) differential as all but one of his points came on the power play. His best performance came last Friday against the Rocket as he managed one goal and three helpers in a 6-2 win. Yesterday, the Montreal Canadiens' fifth round selection collected three points as well as the game's 2nd star in a 5-3 victory over the red-hot Huskies. The MAINEiacs are on a December roll as they have won 5 of 7 since the start of the month. Their next game comes after the holiday break, on Tuesday, December 27, as they travel to Halifax to face the Mooseheads.
Marc-André Cliche (2-5-7) of Lewiston, Benoît Douchet (4-3-7) of Victoriaville and Marc-André Gragnani (0-0-9) of PEI were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Victoriaville Tigres blue-liner Maxim Noreau. In four games this week, Noreau notched two goals and five assists, playing a physically dominating style of hockey as he administered fifteen bodychecks, while collecting a very healthy +5 plus/minus differential. Furthermore, the Tigres defenseman created a lot of scoring chances as he accumulated 17 shots on goal. His best performance came against the Rocket on Saturday, as he notched two goals and two assists in a 8-4 win. Victoriaville's next game is Tuesday, December 27, as they face archrival Drummondville, winners of 5 out of the last 6 battles.
Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were goaltenders Josh Tordjman (2-0-0; 1 SO; 162 MP; 1,48 GAA; ,955 SAV%) of Victoriaville and Jason Churchill (1-1-0; 124 MP; 1,93 GAA; ,956 SAV%) of Saint John, as well as defenseman Jonathan Paiement (4-1-5) of Lewiston.
