Owen Sound Attack News Release

Tonight's Owen Sound Attack game was in support of Cubs for Cancer, with the Attack wearing commemorative jerseys, created by 8 year old Finn Hurley-Johnston. The Attack were looking to bounce back from an nail-biting overtime loss to Peterborough on Thursday evening.

The first period did not have too much action until just before the 3-minute mark in the period when both Aidan Dudas and Hunter Holmes received a penalty, sending the game to 4-on-4 hockey. Only 46 seconds late Flint got caught with too many men on the ice and the Attack headed to their first powerplay of the game.

Kevin Hancock sure knew how to take advantage of the powerplay and found the back of the net assisted by Nick Suzuki and Brady Lyle to open scoring.

Carter Robertson headed to box with just over a minute left, sending the Bears to their first penalty kill of the game. It didn't last long as 27 headed to the box shortly after and we were back to 4-on-4 hockey for the rest of the first period.

Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal after one period sat at 18-8 in favour of the Attack.

The second period started with a goal from Flint when Riley McCourt found a breakaway and sniped the puck past netminder Andrew MacLean. Game was tied 1-1.

The rest of the second period was quiet as the game didn't even see any penalties.

Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal were 14-9, in favour of the Attack in the second period.

The third period opened much like the second, but this time in our favour. Daylon Groulx found the back of the net 1:27 into the third period to give the Attack the 2-1 lead. Groulx' goal was assisted by Dudas and Hancock.

Flint responded quickly after, with Jack Phibbs finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season. The play was assisted by Eric Uba and C.J. Clarke. Less than two minutes later we were up a goal again as Maksim Sushko snuck the puck past Emanuel Vella to bring us to 3-2. Sushko's 6th goal of the season was assisted by Daylon Groulx and Igor Chibrikov.

After Attack netminder Andrew MacLean loses his stick in a scramble infront of the Owen Sound net, the puck was batted away and Kevin Hancock scored his 19th goal of the season on Flint's empty net.

Almost a minute later, Kevin Hancock buries his 2nd empty netter, and 3rd goal of the game, receiving his first hat-trick of the season. Nick Suzuki picked up an assist on the play, and the score was 5-2 with exactly 30 seconds to play.

Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal in the third period were 17-10, in favour of the Bears.

Owen Sound's Daylon Groulx earned first star honours with a goal and an assist, with 6 shots on the evening, while Kevin Hancock earned the second star with his hat-trick and an assist. Pete's Former Attack goalie Emanuel Vella earned third star honours for Flint with 45 saves in the game.

Attack goalie Andrew MacLean won the Hatten Home Hardware Hardest Working Player of the Game, voted by the fans.

At the end of three, Mark McDade shots on goal were 50-26, in favour of the Attack.
