Owen Sound Attack News Release

In their final game before the holidays, the Owen Sound Attack played host to the Kitchener Rangers on a snowy Wednesday night at the Bayshore. The Rangers rolled into town high on a 9 game winning streak since Mike McKenzie took over behind the bench for former head coach Jay McKee while the Attack came in on a streak of their own, albeit a much shorter two consecutive wins in Sudbury and North Bay. Tonight marked 200 career games for Attack defenseman Carter Robertson in the OHL, a very fitting milestone on a night where Hockey Gives Blood joined the Attack for the puck drop. Robertson is a Hockey Gives Blood Player Ambassador alongside Kitchener Rangers goaltender Jacob Ingham. Ingham got the start for Kitchener while Mack Guzda got the nod for Owen Sound.

Daylon Groulx opened the game with the first real scoring chance, a breakaway opportunity in the opening minutes, but LA Kings prospect Ingham was there to shut the door .The Rangers came back the other way and Joseph Serpa scored his first career OHL goal at the three minute mark to open the scoring in the game. Both teams exchanged chances as the period progressed, but Kitchener had the only man advantage of the period. They got plenty of shots on the Owen Sound penalty killers, but Guzda slammed the door shut and kept the puck out of the net. Mark Woolley ended the period with a big hit in his return after missing four games, and the Attack headed to the first intermission down 1-0. Shots on goal after 20 minutes were 16-12 for the Rangers.

The second period was filled with plenty of shots and two goaltenders on top of their game. Owen Sound put 16 shots towards the Kitchener net in the middle frame. Unfortunately, Ingham was there to turn away every last one of them to keep the shutout intact through forty minutes. Guzda faced twenty shots in the period and stopped all except one. After an extended period of play in the Owen Sound zone, Kitchener forced a turnover and Riley Damiani beat Guzda for his 13th of the season and a 2-0 lead for the Rangers. After two periods, the shots on goal were 36-28 for the Rangers.

The Jacob Ingham show continued in the third period as he kept shutting the door on Attack chances. The Bears put ten shots on net in the first half of the period with nothing to show for it. After a power play opportunity for the home team, Greg Meireles converted for the Rangers to make it a 3-0 game on their 44th shot of the evening. The Rangers only got one more shot the rest of the way, while Owen Sound put up seven more. Jacob Ingham was there to stop all of them, and the Rangers would defeat the Attack 3-0.

The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player was Carter Robertson. The Owen Sound Bug Juice North Stars Three Stars were Mack Guzda, Axel Bergkvist and Jacob Ingham.

The Owen Sound Attack return to action next Saturday and Sunday at the Bayshore after the holiday break. Tickets are available at the MacVicar & McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office and online.
