Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack will try to put more space between themselves and divisional rivals tonight at they host the Kitchener Rangers in their first game of 2013, presented by Sauble Beach Winterfest! The Attack is riding a three game win streak that has seen them gather wins over Brampton, Erie and most recently the Oshawa Generals. Goaltender Brandon Hope has been stellar in Jordan Binnington's absence, posting a 3-1 record to go along with a 1.75 GAA and a .939 save percentage.

The Rangers have lost four in a row and sit fourth in the MidWest division, two points behind the Guelph Storm for third spot. Their recent struggles may be strongly attributed to the fact they are without forwards Tobias Rieder (Germany), Radek Faksa (Czech Republic),defenseman Ryan Murphy (Canada) and goaltender John Gibson (USA) due to the World Junior Championships. Their Head Coach Steve Spott has also been absent as he is the bench boss for Team Canada.

If the three previous matchups were any indication, this game should be a doozy, despite the players out of each lineup. In two meetings at the Aud in Kitchener, the Attack dropped both games by a score of 3-2. One via a shootout and one in overtime. Despite their loss in overtime, the Attack erased a two goal deficit late in the third period to force the extra frame.

On November 17th, the Attack defeated the Rangers 4-0 at the Bayshore. Jordan Binnington's shutout was the fist of his three consecutive shutouts in November.

Home on the Range - It's no secret that the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium is one of the hardest places for visiting teams to play and that is precisely why the Rangers likely rather play at home. Their home record is 11-5-0-2, good for a .667 winning percentage, whereas their road record is 8-7-1-2, good for a winning percentage of .528. Both of Kitchener's wins against the Attack came on home ice.

Look Out For - Ottawa Senators prospect Matt Puempel has torched the Attack this season, tallying four goals and an assist in three games. The kicker is that because Kitchener (and Puempel) were shutout the last game, it means that Puempel has scored every Kitchener Rangers regulation goal against the Attack this season.

Tickets for tonight's game at the Bayshore are available at the Attack Box Office in the main lobby of the Bayshore. Game time tonight is 7:00pm.
