OTTAWA - In a game featuring 15 goals, a hot start helped the Owen Sound attack prevail over the Ottawa 67's. They put up double-digits, and took a 10-5 victory away from The Arena at TD Place Saturday afternoon.

Head coach and general manager Jeff Brown wasn't happy with Ottawa's effort, and hopes they can shake off the loss quickly.

"Our players weren't ready, the coaching staff wasn't ready, and I wasn't ready," he said. "We just didn't compete and have to be better."

Brown said the 67's need to adopt short-term memory loss for tomorrow's contest against the Sudbury Wolves.

"You have to just forget about it," he said. "Tomorrow is the biggest game of the year against a team we're trying to catch."

Owen Sound scored the first goal of the game halfway through the first frame, when Matthew Struthers buried a wrist shot from the left side of the slot, beating Olivier Lafreniere point-blank.

A double minor penalty to Markus Phillips helped Ottawa generate many scoring chances in the dying minutes of the period, but couldn't cash. The shots on net in the first were 11-6 for the Attack.

In the second, Owen Sound opened the floodgates with a good start. Chase Campbell, a former 67, scored the first goal of the frame just 1:57 in. The Attack then added four more unanswered goals from Aidan Dudas, Matt Schmalz, Jonah Gadjovich, and Petrus Palmu, quickly making it 6-0 for the visiting side.

Jared Steege had an answer for the Palmu goal 33 seconds later, finishing a breakaway with shoulder shimmy and a high shot from in close.

After Travis Barron made it 6-2, Ottawa came out hot in the third. A jam play at the side of the net from Noel Hoefenmayer squeaked in past the pad of Attack netminder Emanuel Vella. That cut the Attack lead to 6-3.

With the score now at 7-3, the 67's would score another. Zack Dorval grabbed a rebound and stuffed it in on the short side past the diving Vella.

That wouldn't be enough for Ottawa, as Owen Sound replied with a blitz to put the icing on the cake - scoring three in five minutes.

The game's final score was 10-5, after Hoefenmayer added his second of the game at 18:53.

For Sunday afternoon's contest, Sudbury currently sits in sixth in the OHL's eastern conference standings, while Ottawa is in seventh, three points back.

That sets up a four-point game at The Arena at TD Place, where Ottawa can come within one point of Sudbury or find themselves trailing by five.
