Owen Sound Attack News Release
It was a rough game back Sunday afternoon for the Owen Sound Attack, but the Bears had a strong bounce back performance Wednesday night in Sarnia, with a big 5-0 win.
Owen Sound was led Wednesday night by rookie Gavin Bryant (1G, 3A) and net minder Nick Chenard (27 save shutout).
It was a quick start for the Attack as rookie defence man Cal Uens sent a seeing eye shot through traffic. Originally, Uens shot looked to had hit the cross bar, but after a review during the next stoppage, showed the puck going square off the back, inside bar. It was Uens' first career OHL goal, which ultimately became the game winner.
It was a strong opening period for the Attack, as they surrendered just nine shot on goal, but had to rely on Chenard when the teams traded chance just before the 10 minute mark of the period.
It wasn't until the third period when the Bears were able to break the game open, by scoring three goals in just over five and half minutes. First it was Bryant, who buried five-hole after taking a break-away pass form Logan LeSage. That line, including Stepan Machacek, was at it again during their next shift, this time it was Machacek getting behind the Sting's defence. The big winger caught up to an alley-oop pass and was able to get just enough of a bouncing puck to chip over Sting net minder Benjamin Gaudreau for the 3-0 lead.
Bryant and Machacek each completed their multi-point night about three minutes later when they gained access into he Sarnia zone, before Bryant found Attack captain Mark Woolley trailing the play. Woolley the sniped his first goal of the season to increase the Bears lead to 4-0, ultimately putting the game out of reach.
Rookie Thomas Chafe would bang home a power play marker in the last minute of the game to seal the Attack's 5-0 win, and helping Chenard pick up his first shutout off the season.
Owen Sound will continue their road schedule this weekend, as they travel north to Sault Ste. Marie for a weekend double-header, with game one going Saturday night.
