OTTAWA, ON - Atlético Ottawa has today confirmed the extension of experienced full-back Maxim Tissot until the end of the 2024 Canadian Premier League season.

Tissot, 31, joined Atlético in 2022 and has featured 47 times (all competitions) for the club since, scoring six (6) goals and providing four (4) assists. An experienced leader, Tissot was named as one of the four club captains ahead of the 2023 season, donning the armband six times whilst continuing to inspire young players in the region through his performances and visits to CS Aylmer and AS Gatineau (for more information on the Powered by Atlético Program click here).

"Extending with Atlético Ottawa means the world to me," said Tissot. "As a local player, I carry immense pride in representing my hometown on the pitch. Last season had its challenges, but I'm determined to right those wrongs and contribute to our success in 2024. Being a leader is not just about the game; it's about inspiring the next generation. I want to be a strong role model, not only within the squad but also for aspiring youth players in our region. There is nowhere else I want to continue my career but here, in Ottawa. Excited for the journey ahead."

CEO Fernando López added: "We are thrilled to secure Maxim Tissot's contract extension with Atlético Ottawa. His leadership in the locker room and his experience on the field were crucial elements in our journey to clinch the club's first title in 2022. Max not only brings exceptional talent to the field but also a deep connection to our local community and deepens our connection with the local francophone community as well. We are very excited to continue building on our success and Max will be a key cornerstone in making that a reality."

Tissot is a product of the Impact Academy, Tissot signed his first professional contract in 2013 with the Montreal Impact (now CF Montréal) in the MLS. He made his debut in April 2013, a day after his 21st birthday. He was part of the Montreal squad that won back-to-back Canadian Championships in 2013 and 2014.

After being waved by the Impact in June of 2016, Tissot joined his hometown club, Ottawa Fury, for a first stint, and competed in the NASL. Tissot went on to play in MLS with DC United and back to the NASL with the San Francisco Deltas in 2017, helping lead the Deltas to a Soccer Bowl win in their inaugural season. When the Deltas folded days after their championship win, Tissot made a return home to rejoin Ottawa Fury FC, now playing in the USL. He would go on to miss most of the 2018 season due to injury but made a successful return in 2019 before a new chapter in the CPL began and the 31-year-old would find success again, securing Forge FC's second consecutive title with a goal in the final against Halifax Wanderers.

"We are very happy and proud to be able to count on Max for another season," said Carlos González, Head Coach, Atlético Ottawa. "We know that he has vital characteristics for the team we want to build, competitive mentality and ambition, as he will contribute as he has done so far with his proven experience and sense of belonging that defines him as a player. We need to have players like Max, as his character and ability will always add value to the team."

As Atlético Ottawa continues to chart further success in the capital, fans who are eager to secure their part can join the Atleti Family by purchasing their Season Seat Membership now. Full details on benefits and perks are available at atleticoottawa.club.
