Atletico Ottawa Welcomes Canadian Kunle Dada-Luke
Ottawa, ON - Atlético Ottawa has added Canadian fullback/right wringer, Kunle Dada-Luke to their roster. Dada-Luke, 20 was just 14 years old when he made his debut in the Canada Soccer's Men's National Youth Program in 2014 at an identification camp.
Most recently Dada-Luke had signed with Danish club FC Helsingor last July after a successful trial there and left the club in January 2020. The 5-10 fullback (can also play as a winger) from Mississauga, Ontario is noted for his speed and athleticism. He was just three years old when he started playing soccer for West Toronto SC.
"We are delighted to announce that Kunle will be with us this season," said Atlético Ottawa CEO, Fernando Lopez. "He will bring speed, control and balance to our defense and is an enormous talent that will grow in the CPL. We are very sure he will be a great asset for our squad."
Dada-Luke played for Toronto FC's youth academy from 2013-2018 in League1 Ontario and moved up to TFC II in 2018, playing for the club in the USL. Kunle represented Canada's Under-17 team, with two appearances at the 2017 CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship in Panama.
"Being part of a club with such rich footballing history like Atlético de Madrid is such a huge honour. I think what they're doing branching out to the Canadian footballing market and establishing a club in Ottawa shows their dedication to finding the best talent all over the world," said Dada-Luke. "This just shows how big soccer in Canada is getting by drawing interest from big clubs like Atlético. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for a new league like the CPL to have one of the biggest clubs in the world have a team competing in the league. It will be really exciting to play back home in Canada in front of the fans at TD Place. I can't wait to get to work and put on the colours of Atlético Ottawa."
Dade-Luke is the seventh player to officially join Atlético Ottawa, joining previous signings Ben Fisk, Antoine Coupland, Malyk Hamilton, Ajay Khabra, Michel Djaozardy and Ricky Gomes.
Atlético Ottawa will begin play on the road against 2019 Champions Forge FC on Saturday, April 18 and will face off against HFX Wanderers at home (TD Place) on Saturday May 16, 2020.
