
Atlanta United Acquires up to $900,000 in General Allocation Money

ATLANTA - Atlanta United announced today it has acquired up to $900,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) from CF Montreal in exchange for defender George Campbell, of which $600,000 is guaranteed.
Atlanta will receive $400,000 in 2023 GAM and $200,000 in 2024 GAM from CF Montreal. Atlanta could also receive up to an additional $300,000 in conditional GAM if certain performance-based incentives are met. Additionally, Atlanta would receive a percentage of a future transfer.
"George joined our Academy in 2016 and completed our player pathway to the First Team, proving he was ready for the challenge at each step in his development," Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. "He has been a great professional and positive influence around the club and community. We want to thank George for his contributions to the club and wish him the best of luck in his future."
Campbell joined the Atlanta United Academy during its first season in 2016-17 and signed as a Homegrown player on July 9, 2019. He made his professional debut against Hartford Athletic in the USL Championship on March 9, 2019, where he was named Man of the Match.
Campbell joined the First Team in 2020 and made his MLS debut on March 7, 2020 against FC Cincinnati. In 2021, he made 15 appearances for Atlanta, made his first MLS start on July 17 against New England and scored his first career MLS goal on Sept. 10 against Orlando City SC. In 2022, the center back recorded career-highs with 20 appearances, 16 starts and 1,476 minutes played.
TRANSACTION: Atlanta United receives $400,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $200,000 in 2024 GAM from CF Montreal in exchange for defender George Campbell. Atlanta could also receive up to $300,000 in additional GAM if certain incentives are met.
