Atlanta Dream News Release
ATLANTA, February 8, 2012 - The Atlanta Dream announced today the team has signed free agent forward Cathrine Kraayeveld to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, further terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"One of the things we felt like we needed to add to our team was a three-point shooter, and Cathrine definitely fills that role," said Dream Head Coach and General Manager Marynell Meadors. "She is also a good defender on the perimeter and she can play multiple positions. I think her versatility on offense and defense will really be an asset."
Kraayeveld, a 6-3 forward, is a seven-year veteran in the WNBA. She spent her first five seasons in the league with the New York Liberty before being acquired by the Chicago Sky in a multi-team trade prior to the 2010 season. In her WNBA career, Kraayeveld is averaging 7.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 38.2% from beyond the arc.
Kraayeveld appeared in 33 games for the Sky in 2011, including 15 starts. She averaged 5.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. One of the league's top perimeter shooters, Kraayeveld connected on 40.9% of her attempts from beyond the arc. She ranked tenth in the league in three-point field goal percentage in 2011.
The Washington native played her collegiate basketball at the University of Oregon. She was originally selected by the San Antonio Silver Stars in the third round of the 2005 WNBA Draft with the 27th overall pick.
The Atlanta Dream tips off its fifth season this summer at Philips Arena as part of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the world's longest-running women's professional sports league. The Dream, the defending two-time, back-to-back Eastern Conference Champion, opens its home schedule on May 25 against the New York Liberty. Season and group tickets are on sale now and individual tickets will be available for purchase in the spring. For more information, visit www.AtlantaDream.net or call (877) 977-7729.
