
Atkins Leads Cubs over Express

Mitch Atkins struck out six over 7.1 innings as the Iowa Cubs defeated the Round Rock Express 8-2 Sunday afternoon at Principal Park.
Atkins also scored two runs in the second inning for Iowa when he doubled in his first at-bat. Jake Fox homered in three games in a row, when he hit his seventh of the year in the second inning of today's contest to get Iowa on the board. Iowa held a 3-0 lead heading into the third inning.
Round Rock posted two runs in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by John Gall and a run-scoring double from Mark Saccomanno, to cut Iowa's lead 3-2. The Cubs rallied for another three runs in the fourth inning when Jason Dubois launched a solo home run. Chris Robinson, who was 3-for-3, doubled and Sam Fuld reached base after being hit by a pitch. The duo came around to score on Nate Spears' two-run double.
Brad Snyder added to Iowa's 14-hit attack when he doubled in the fifth inning and scored for a 7-2 Iowa lead.
Iowa pitchers held the Express scoreless after the fourth inning and combined to allow just six hits and two walks.
The Cubs plated another run in the bottom of the eight inning when Fox drove in Bobby Scales with a double. Fox was 2-for-5 with two RBI.
The Iowa Cubs and Round Rock Express play tomorrow for a 12:05 p.m. game at Principal Park.
