New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Zephyrs were able to find offensive production for the first time at home, but couldn't keep with the hot bats of the Sounds, who won 9-7.
In the fourth and fifth inning combined the Zephyrs scored five runs as they took a 6-3 lead into the sixth inning. The lead didn't last long as the Sounds scored three in the top of the sixth, followed by three more runs over the course of the seventh and eighth innings. Dave Matranga hit a Zephyrs' home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but that's where the rally ended.
The first two pitchers for each squad finished the day without a decision. Carlos Martinez was tagged with the loss, even though he gave up the fewest runs of any of the four Zephyrs pitchers to appear in the game. Martinez allowed only one run in an innings and two thirds, while Jason Standridge gave up four runs in an innings and one third.
Matt Ginter is now 1-1 on the season after getting his first win and Chris Narveson picked up his first save.
The Zephyrs will try to avoid the four-game sweep at the hands of the Sounds Monday at 11:30. RHP Brett Sinkbeil (1-1, 11.57) is expected to start for the first time at Zephyr Field as he matches-up with LHP Sam Narron (0-1, 4.50).
