HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Astros have announced the club will host the Nolan Ryan Elite Pitching and Jeff Bagwell Elite Hitting Camps next week at Minute Maid Park. The announcement was made by general manager Tim Purpura.

Among those scheduled to participate in the five-day camp are seven players who spent significant time with the Hooks in 2005 and 2006. Matt Albers, who was honored at last week's South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet as the 2006 Hooks Pitcher of the Year and is the reigning Texas League Pitcher of the Year, will attend the camp, along with fellow pitchers Chris Sampson, Chad Reineke and Troy Patton.

Hunter Pence, also honored at last week's banquet as the 2006 Hooks Player of the Year, heads up the list of position players slated for the camp, along with former Hooks Brooks Conrad and Mike Rodriguez. A total of 27 players, including reliever Brad Lidge and outfielders Chris Burke and Jason Lane, are scheduled to take part in the workouts.

The pitching portion of the camp will be directed by Ryan, the Hall of Fame hurler who is in his fourth season as a special assistant to the general manager and is also majority owner of the Hooks. Bagwell, the Astros all-time homerun and RBI leader, will direct the hitting element of the Elite Camp. Bagwell, along with Purpura, Albers and Sampson, are all slated to be in Corpus Christi on Thursday, February 8th for the Astros annual Winter Caravan Luncheon, scheduled to get under way at 11:30 a.m. at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center.

Camp times for the first four days of workouts, next Monday through Thursday, will be from 10:00 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. On Friday, Feb. 2, the time of the camp will be from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The first workout each day involves the pitchers, with position players to follow. Workouts will be open to the media, with player and staff availability at the conclusion of each day's session.

In addition to those listed above, other pitchers who are expected to attend the camp include Brian Bogusevic, Tip Fairchild, Lincoln Holdzkom, Casey Hudspeth, Brad James, Bud Norris, Sergio Perez and Chris Salamida. The other players scheduled to be in Houston next week include infielders Koby Clemens, Chris Johnson and Tommy Manzella; catchers Ralph Henriquez, Lou Santangelo, J.R. Towles and Max Sapp; and outfielders Josh Flores and Eli Iorg.
