The Marshals News Release
Cincinnati, OH â The Cincinnati Marshals of the National Indoor Football League fell to the River City Rage 55-53 Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena in front of 3,893 fans.
The loss knocks the Marshals to 0-2 on the season after a heartbreaking loss in the season opener versus Beaumont. The Marshals had pulled with 2 points with only minutes left in the game, but on the ensuing drive QB Brett Dietz threw an interception sealing the Rage win.
The Marshals showed signs of life throughout the game and included many bright spots. None were brighter than Marshals running back / wide receiver, Rayshawn Askew, scoring 7 touchdowns on 87 yards rushing and 129 yards receiving. His touchdowns included runs of 40, 3, & 7 and passes of 9, 29, 28, & 11. On the Defense side of the ball Nick Ackerman led the team with 11.5 tackles including 10 solo tackles. Ron Carpenter enjoyed success in his first game of the season with 9.5 tackles and an interception.
Growing Pains
With many players new to the indoor game, the Marshals are starting to find their groove. QB Brett Dietz was 17-33 for 179 including 4 touchdown passes. The Marshals gained a total of 263 yards in the close loss.
Head Coach Ed Biles said, "The guys played well tonight. We need to improve our second half game but overall we're coming together and becoming a very competitive team. We're trying to put the best product we can on the field for the city of Cincinnati."
Train a Coming
Cincinnati fans may not be all too familiar with Rayshawn Askew, but NIFL defenses are. Askew led the NIFL in rushing in 2004 with 1047 yards on 215 carries. Askew already ranks near the top of the NIFL individual standings with 160 yards rushing and 9 touchdowns.
