Asheville Tourists News Release

(Lexington, KY) Dan Houston was impressive and the offense did enough without their two best hitters in the lineup as Asheville picked up their first sweep of the season with a 3-0 victory over Lexington. Asheville received RBI hits from David Christensen, Carlos Martinez and Patrick Rose on Wednesday night to slip past Lexington on the road.

Dan Houston dominated for seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts to earn his second win of the season. Houston allowed just four hits and three walks to complete the sweep and pick up the third shutout of the season for Asheville. Lexington scored just two runs in the three game series and were shut out for the final 18 innings. The Tourists had not won three consecutive games since April 28-30 and look to make it four straight for the first time this season on Thursday from Greenville, SC.

Tyler Massey singled and Patrick Rose grounded into a fielder choice to begin the 5th inning. Rose moved to second with a single from Jimmy Cesario and took third on a wild pitch. Carlos Martinez then poked a single through to right field to score Rose and give Asheville the first run of the game.

Asheville's bullpen held the lead with a combination of Isaiah Froneberger, Tyler Trice and Adam Jorgensen. Froneberger struggled with his command walking a batter and hitting one before being lifted. Trice then entered and picked up to outs to end the 8th inning. Adam Jorgensen earned his 9th save of the season and second of the series with two strikeouts in the 9th inning.

Scott Robinson led off the sixth inning with a single and stole second base despite a pitch-out attempt. Thomas Field executed a sacrifice bunt to move Robinson to third base and David Christensen drove him home with a single to add to his team high 32 runs driven in. Christensen would then score on a Patrick Rose double.

Jordan Lyles was overpowering in his sixth loss of the season for Lexington. Lyles allowed just one extra base hit and stuck out ten batters in his six innings of work. The Tourists were able to scratch one run off Lyles in the 5th and two more in the sixth inning.

The Tourists will travel to Greenville to take on the Drive on Thursday at 7:05. Ethan Hollingsworth (3-4, 3.99) will take the mound for Asheville in an attempt to make it four consecutive wins for the first time this season.
