Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League named long-time fan favorite Peter Arvanitis to the front office staff, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.

Arvanitis' primary function will be sales and marketing of Express Sports entities, specifically the Oklahoma City Blazers. In addition to his marketing work, he will assist Sauter with coaching duties.

During his career, Arvanitis played 386 games over seven seasons for the Blazers, recording 228 points (112-116-228) and serving 1,189 penalty minutes. His first season as a Blazer, he established a then league record with 35 major penalties and set a franchise record by serving 403 penalty minutes. He ranks in the top 11 in 10 different Blazers offensive categories on the all-time list including: first in penalty minutes (1,189), major penalties (93), third in games played (386) and short-handed goals (10) and sixth in goals (112) and power-play goals (32).

Following a career-ending wrist injury in 2003, Arvanitis retired from professional hockey and entered the business world in Oklahoma City. For the last two years, he has worked as a sales associate with Yellow Book USA, formerly Feist Publications. His wife Patricia recently gave birth to their first child Maria Anna.

"I believe having Pete back with our organization will be nice," said Sauter. "On the ice, I think he will be a good fit to work with our younger players. His intensity and desire will hopefully rub off on them. In the office, I expect he will be able to maximize the relationships he built over the years with our loyal fans."

"Peter ranks near the top in Blazers annals for what he brought to our organization on-and-off the ice as a player," said Brad Lund, CEO. "He has spent the past year in a sales environment and exceeded all expectations. His addition to our staff is a 'natural' fit. We have had a great track record for players moving into a front office role. Nothing is more rewarding than to see one of our athletes succeed in the business world."

Arvanitis will be available for interview this afternoon after 2 p.m. To set an interview time, please contact Josh Evans at the Blazers office at 235-7825.
